About the Farm

              Our Mission Statement

Southlands Farm strives to efficiently and ethically produce eggs and grow quality produce and provide agricultural education and entertainment within the Southlands community in Vancouver. We aim to provide education and high-end, local foods to local, socially aware consumers of all ages. In this way we hope to encourage sustainable urban agriculture with the ultimate goals of promoting food security throughout Vancouver, and maintaining the rural, agricultural lifestyle in this community.

The History of the Farm

Southlands Farm was conceptualized in the spring of 2008, and immediatly raised beds were built, orchards planted, and ditches dug. The vision was to intesively farm our family backyard in a sustainble way to demonstrate to neighbours that true food security is possible within the city.

Three years later we have expanded the farm onto a new site at the corner of 51st and Balaclava, and provide urban agriculture education to the public in the form of ag workshops, YoungFarmers summer camps for kids, a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and cider pressing.

Digging ditches and building raised beds.

Clearing overgrown blackberries and trees to put new land into production for 2009.

Turning lawn into raised garden beds.
