A day at the Farm

   
  Southlands Farm is a one of a kind farm experience right in the city of Vancouver - only 10 minutes from downtown. We are passionate about food and where it comes from. We can cater to all ages and levels of learning and would love to show you what life is like on the farm. See below for information about Field Trips & Group Visits, Workshops, Pumpkin Patch, Birthday Parties, and other farm events. Call us to customize your visit.

Here are the steps to setting up your perfect day at the farm:

  • Check out some of the activities we have available below - or suggest your own to suit your educational needs! You decide on which activities from the list below that you would like to do to fill the time.

  • Decide how long you would like to spend at the farm.

  • Call our office and schedule a date and make payment.

  • Enjoy your fun & educational day at the farm! Bus parking is available along 51st avenue EAST of Balaclava.

 


Common Activities at the Farm
Note: Food baking activities and apple pressing are temporarily unavailable because we are building a better outdoor kitchen facility!

  • Pumpkin Patch - meet a farmer and explore the farm. Pet the animals and learn how pumpkins are grown. Pick a pumpkin in the orchard. Ages 3+. (Let us know how we can build on your curriculum.)

  • *Bake Bread or Pizza from scratch in our outdoor cob wood-fired oven (starting with threshing, winnowing, and milling your own flour!). Ages 5 to 105. 1.5 hours. Choose another 30min activity while bread rises. (THIS ACTIVITY TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE).

  • Tour the Farm - Feed the goats, play with the chickens, pet the ducks and ponies, see our root-cellar, market garden and orchard. Play farm games. Tell us how we can tailor the tour to your curriculum objectives. Ages 3 to 11. 60min 

  • Meet the Horse - Groom and learn about our horses and ponies
    Ages 3 and up. 30+min.


  • *Pony Rides in the orchard. This activity requires a minimum of 2min per person plus 15min introduction. Choose another activity while children are waiting, or organize your own activity. Ages 3 and older. 

  • Educational Games and Activities. Choose from the following topics, or suggest your own topic to suit your curriculum.
    • Composting (Ages 5+)
    • Mason Bees/ Honey Bees (Ages 6+)
    • Native plant foods. Spring & summer only (Ages 10+)
    • Apple juice making. Fall only (Ages 6+)
    • Cooking and food prep
    • Farm food plants. Summer and Fall only.

  • Farm Field Trips (choose from activities below): The cost is $10 per child for up to 1.5 hours. Parents are free.
  • Pumpkin Patch: $8 per child and includes a pumpkin and tour of the farm.
  • Items marked with a (*) have an additional cost. Call us for more information.
  • For facility rental call us to discuss pricing.
